Ten things that arrive with the car at no extra cost. The list exists because the industry habit is to unbundle these and sell them back to you at signing.

A lease charges you for the value a car loses while you have it, not for the car. The residual is the lessor's forecast of what it will be worth at the end, set as a percentage of MSRP. Every card below shows that forecast at four terms, and the split between the part you pay for and the part the lessor keeps.

Residual percentages, values and depreciation shown are sample figures for demonstration. Residuals are set by the funding lessor, not by us, and change monthly. Electric residuals generally sit three to five points below an equivalent combustion car because lessors are pricing charge speed obsolescence and incentive volatility into the forecast.

A Level 2 box on the Austin Energy EV plan at $0.1175 per kWh overnight is roughly a quarter of the cost of public DC fast charging. We fit it before the car arrives.
About a third of homes built before 1985 in 78704 need a 100 to 200 amp upgrade. We quote that at $1,450 before you sign, not after the electrician is standing in your driveway.
Austin to Dallas is one fifteen minute stop in most of our cars, none at all in the Lume S. Precondition the pack on the way and it stays fifteen minutes.
Term and mileage band change a lease payment more than trim does. Every 2,500 miles you add to the allowance takes points off the residual, which raises the monthly. Going over the allowance costs $0.25 a mile at turn in. Pick a car and a band and the whole picture recalculates.
Look up your last two Texas inspections. They record the odometer, so the difference is your real annual mileage.
At this band
$342a month, sample
You expect 12,500 miles a year, which is 7,500 miles over this band. At $0.25 a mile that is $1,875 at turn in.
Moving up a band is usually cheaper than paying the overage. Compare the two figures above before you sign, not at month 34.
Sample figures for demonstration. Excess mileage is charged at $0.25 a mile at turn in; miles bought up front cost $0.16 a mile and are not refunded if unused. Energy cost assumes the Austin Energy EV plan overnight rate of $0.1175 per kWh and the vehicle's EPA combined consumption. Offers are samples, subject to credit approval.
Nine fees touch a lease. Four hit at signing, one is waived, and four wait until you hand the car back. Here is each one with the amount, who charges it, whether anybody can discount it and whether it can be rolled into the payment instead of paid on the day.
$1,095
Also called a bank fee. It pays the lessor for writing the contract and it is fixed by the funding bank, so nobody at Current can discount it. You can either pay it at signing or capitalise it, which adds about $34 a month on a 36 month term. We capitalise it by default and show you both numbers.
6.25% of the taxable price
Texas taxes a lease on the vehicle's full purchase price at inception rather than taxing each monthly payment the way most states do. On a $46,300 SUV that is $2,894. It is capitalised into the adjusted cap cost, which is why a Texas EV lease payment looks higher than the same deal quoted in a monthly tax state.
$225
Texas does not cap the doc fee. Ours is $225 and it is the same for every customer and every car, published here so you can compare it before you walk in. It covers title preparation and electronic filing.
$105
State fees, passed through at cost with the receipt attached to your delivery pack. Travis County registration renewals during the term are your responsibility and cost about $80 a year.
One month
Leases are paid in advance, so month one is always collected at delivery. Every due at signing figure on this site includes it, which is why our numbers sometimes look higher than an advert that quietly leaves it out.
$0
Waived on every tier 1 and tier 2 approval. Some lessors offer multiple security deposits to buy the money factor down; if that is worth doing on your deal we will tell you and show the arithmetic.
$0.25 a mile
Charged only on miles past the contracted allowance. Buying miles up front costs $0.16, so if you are confident you will run 3,000 over, prepaying saves $270. If you are not confident, do not prepay: unused prepaid miles are not refunded.
$0 to $5,000
Assessed against the published standards on our wear and tear page. The Current Wear Waiver covers up to $5,000 of chargeable wear for $11 a month, which is worth it if the car will carry car seats, dogs or a ladder rack.
$395
Charged when you hand the car back and walk away. It is waived entirely if you start another Current lease within 30 days, and it does not apply at all if you buy the car at the residual.
All fee amounts are sample figures for demonstration. Texas does not cap dealer documentary fees; ours is published here so it can be compared before you visit. Acquisition and disposition fees are set by the funding lessor and cannot be discounted by a dealer.
Every lessor has a wear standard. Most of them will not show it to you until the inspector is standing in your driveway. Ours is published here with a photograph, the measurement that decides it, and the dollar figure attached if it goes the wrong way.

4/32 inch minimum tread, all four matched
Sample charge$185 to $310 per tyre
A tyre shop on Airport Boulevard will fit a matched pair for around $340. That is cheaper than two tyres at the lessor's rate, so measure your tread at month 30, not month 35.

Chips under 1/4 inch, outside the driver's sight line
Sample charge$420 windscreen, $160 side glass
Most Texas comprehensive policies repair a chip with no deductible. Fix it the week it happens, because a chip turns into a crack on the first 40 degree morning after a 100 degree afternoon.

Kerb rash under 1 inch on the rim face
Sample charge$180 per wheel refinish
Mobile alloy repair in Austin runs about $110 a wheel and takes an hour in your driveway. Keep the original wheels in the garage if you fit anything aftermarket.

Dings under 2 inches, four per panel
Sample charge$95 to $240 per panel
Paintless dent removal is around $85 a ding locally and leaves no repair history. We hand out a printed 2 inch circle gauge at delivery so you can check a panel in ten seconds.

Soiling that cleans, wear that does not hole through
Sample charge$150 to $400 per area
Book a full interior detail a fortnight before turn in, around $180 in Austin. Car seat pressure marks in the second row are acceptable wear, so do not panic about those.

Everything that came with the car comes back
Sample charge$290 connector, $310 key fob
This is the single most common charge at turn in and the easiest to avoid. Put the second fob and the mobile connector in a labelled box on day one, and check the frunk the morning of the return.
Sample charges for demonstration. Final assessment is made by the funding lessor's inspector against the lessor's own published standards, which we supply with your contract. Our own pre inspection at around month 33 is free and is the reason 96 percent of our returns carry no wear invoice.

The install is the part that varies, not the car. A 2019 house in Pflugerville often has conduit already run. A 1968 house in 78704 may need a service upgrade. We survey before you sign so the number never moves.
Nobody at Current works on a commission tied to which car you take or which package you add. That is the whole reason the advice sounds different.

Marcus pulled my last two inspection reports and told me I drive 13,000 miles a year, not the 10,000 I claimed. That one conversation saved me about $750 at turn in.
They put the payment on a 39 month term instead of 36 and explained exactly why it came out lower. First car purchase of any kind where someone showed me the arithmetic.
Charger was on the garage wall and working two days before the car arrived. Nobody told me that was unusual until friends started asking how I managed it.
My 1968 house needed a panel upgrade. Rosa quoted $1,450 before the survey and it came in at $1,450. No creep, no extras on the day.
I wanted an SUV. They showed me the estate carries more and goes 26 miles further on a charge, then let me decide. It was the right call.
Bed outlets replaced the generator I was renting every month. Imani built me a cost sheet against my old diesel before I signed anything.
They were blunt that the GT is the most expensive car per mile they lease. I took it anyway and I have no complaints, because I knew exactly what I was choosing.
Daniel pre inspected at month 33 and found two dings and a tyre at 4/32. Fixed both locally for under $300 instead of being billed $600 at return.
Amira called out of nowhere to say my payoff was below market and there was equity in the lease. I had no idea that was even a thing.
Doc fee was $225, same as the website said. After three other dealers quoted me four different numbers, that alone decided it.
Towing cuts about a third of the range. They told me that during the test drive, not after delivery. Set expectations properly for the lake trips.

I had leased two cars before and I had never once seen a residual percentage or a money factor. Current put the whole worksheet on one page, walked me through the mileage band decision using my own inspection history, and the payment at signing was the payment on the card. The charger was already on the wall when the car turned up.

Two things plus tax. Depreciation is the adjusted capitalised cost minus the residual value, divided by the number of months. Rent charge is the adjusted cap plus the residual, multiplied by the money factor. Add them together and that is your payment. Texas motor vehicle tax is capitalised into the cap cost at inception rather than added monthly, which is why a Texas payment looks higher than the same deal quoted in a monthly tax state.
Take the band that matches what you actually drive, which is usually higher than people guess. Look up your last two Texas state inspections; they record the odometer, so the difference between them is your real annual mileage. Going over costs $0.25 a mile at turn in. Buying miles up front costs $0.16 a mile but is not refunded if you do not use them.
The residual only drops about a point and a half over those three extra months, while the depreciation you are paying gets spread over three more payments. On a Kestra Ridge Ultra the 39 month payment lands roughly $19 a month below the 36. The trade is three more months of commitment and three more months of mileage allowance to use.
The unit and a standard install are included on a 36 month lease or longer. Standard means up to 40 feet of conduit from your panel to the wall, plus the City of Austin permit and inspection. If your home needs a service upgrade from 100 to 200 amps, that is quoted separately and typically runs $1,450. We survey before you sign, so you know which one you are in.
On the Austin Energy EV plan overnight at $0.1175 per kWh, a car using 25 kWh per 100 miles costs about 2.9 cents a mile. The same car on public DC fast charging at $0.44 per kWh costs about 11 cents a mile. Charging at home is roughly a quarter of the price, which is the single biggest running cost decision you will make.
The thresholds are published on our wear and tear page with photographs. In short: tyres at or above 4/32 inch, no cracks in any glass, kerb rash under an inch, dings under two inches with the paint unbroken and no more than four per panel, and every item that came with the car returned including the second key fob and the mobile connector. Missing equipment is the most common charge and the easiest to avoid.
It is the lessor's cost of getting the car ready to sell again, and it is $395. It is waived entirely if you start another Current lease within 30 days, and it does not apply if you buy the car at the residual.
The first check is a soft pull, which does not affect your score and tells us your tier and the money factor you qualify for. A hard pull only happens when you choose to proceed on a specific car, and you will be told before it happens.
Every lease carries the Standard column at no cost. The two waivers are optional, priced separately and added to the payment rather than buried in it. Whichever you take, the six promises on the right apply.
